Penang, August 22, 2003
When MSD employees from the Penang branch office read about the plight of the St Joseph's Orphanage in the local papers, they decided to respond to their call for help. The orphanage, which provides shelter for 60 children had its female dormitory burnt down. The 25 girls who resided in the dormitory had no option but move into the orphanage's hall until a new dormitory can be built.
A donation drive was organized by the employees as part of the MSD Sports and Recreation Community Project. RM1,600 was collected. Armed with a RM1,600 cheque, they also brought with them cakes and other contributions to the children. Not only did they get to spend time with the children, they were also given a tour of the facility.
Judging from the children's response, the visit was made much more eventful to all involved.
This sponsorship and contribution programme is part of the year long sports, recreational and community initiatives organized by MSD’s Sports & Recreational Club (SRC) and supported by MSD’s employees at the branch and nationwide level. Besides community projects, the Club also actively spearheads various sports and recreational activities for employees at MSD.
