Petaling Jaya, August 8, 2003
Employees of Merck Sharp and Dohme (MSD) Malaysia organized a fun-filled outing for 14 children when they took them on an exciting visit to Zoo Negara. The children, who were between the ages of 4 to 12, hail from Shelter Home For Children, located at Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
This outing, initiated by MSD’s Sports & Recreational Club (SRC), enabled MSD employees to sponsor the child’s entry ticket and other incidentals while at the zoo. The children were also treated to lunch at the Marrybrown Restaurant and participated in developing fun, sand art cartoons which they brought back with them that afternoon.
In addition to organizing the trip to Zoo Negara, MSD also contributed a wide collection of products which were based on a wish list from the caretakers of Shelter Home For Children. The products were mostly necessities needed by the home such as groceries, canned food, pillows, bed sheets and toys. Three days were set aside to compile the collection of goods from the MSD staff at their office.
Said Ewe Kheng Huat, Managing Director, Merck Sharp and Dohme Malaysia, “The main intention of SRC’s community programme is to promote goodwill and compassion amongst the Malaysian community. The drive is to make a difference in whatever way we can, no matter how great or small.
“In this case, we are delighted that we were able to bring these wonderful children joy and laughter, although it was only for a short time. Sometimes, a little gesture of this manner goes a long way,” he added.
This sponsorship and contribution programme is part of the year long sports, recreational and community initiatives organized by MSD’s Sports & Recreational Club (SRC). Besides community projects, the Club also actively spearheads various sports and recreational activities for employees at MSD.
