A little generosity goes a long way. This was the sentiment shared by some of the MSD staff who took a little time off one weekend morning to deliver wholesome goodies to the Good Samaritan Home, a welfare home for abandoned children, through a community effort led by the MSD Malaysia Sports and Recreational Club (SRC).

Bringing with them an assortment of food items that will benefit the children, MSD employees and their family members arrived at the Home greeted by the delightful sounds of children. The food parcels were collected earlier at the MSD office through a donation drive organised by SRC.

No stranger to community involvements, Clariss Chow, SRC member and project coordinator, wanted to ensure the visit would be worthwhile. “When we found out that the Home was short of food supplies, we quickly started a donation drive to pool together contributions from MSD employees. It was wonderful to see the collection box flowing with various items every day,” she said.

The visit was part of MSD’s on-going commitment to enrich the lives of people living within the community. While charitable contributions from the public has improved the facilities of the Home over the years, regular donations from the public is still needed to provide the children with the basic necessities like food and clothing to ensure their wellbeing.

“It is so rewarding for all of us involved to see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves. The children even gave us a song and dance performance. While it is important to help those in need, the little time spent interacting with these children proved to be equally valuable,” said Dixon Lim, another SRC volunteer.

The Good Samaritan Home was established in 1999 by Albert Ong, a former pastor, who provides shelter for the poor and needy children who cannot be legally placed in foster homes, many of whom were housed here due to mistreatment and neglect. In light of their broken family backgrounds, the Home not only provides for the children’s physical and material needs, but also seeks to reach out to their emotional and psychological needs.

For those who wish to make contributions to the Home, you can contact them directly at 03-3372 2289 or visit the Good Samaritan Home at 2, Lebuh Jelutong, Taman Selatan, 41200 Klang, Selangor.

This sponsorship and contribution programme is part of the year long sports, recreational and community initiatives organized by MSD Malaysia’s Sports & Recreational Club (SRC).  Besides community projects, the Club also actively spearheads various sports and recreational activities for employees at MSD Malaysia.
