Contact information regarding voluntary market withdrawal of Vioxx®
Petaling Jaya, October 1, 2004:- On September 30, 2004 Merck & Co., Inc. announced a voluntary worldwide withdrawal of Vioxx® (rofecoxib), its arthritis and acute pain medication (please refer to press release).
In Malaysia, immediate steps have since been taken by Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc to notify local health authorities and health care professionals in response to the announcement. Patients who are currently taking VIOXX should contact their health care providers to discuss discontinuing use of VIOXX and possible alternative treatments. A toll-free service line has been set-up to respond to queries. The number 1-800-38-1202 will be operational from 9am to 6pm from October 1 to 8, 2004. In addition, information may be obtained from www.merck.com and www.vioxx.com.
