Tell Someone, In Style was a concerted effort initiated by Merck, Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA), to raise awareness about cervical cancer and to raise funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM).

Limited-edition t-shirts created by six designers Gillian Hung, Eric Choong, Jonathan Cheng, Khoon Hooi, Scott Chu and Lester Wong, were designed to spark conversations about the severity of cervical cancer and prompt people to pass along the knowledge on how women can help protect themselves.

In addition, proceeds from the t-shirt sales were utilized for NSCM’s education programme based in local educational institutions. NSCM’s campaign will reach out to young adult females via a multi-faceted interactive programme.

“Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer affecting Malaysian women . Because of this grave and evident risk, every Malaysian woman should have access to education and information about cervical cancer and how to help protect themselves from it. Tell Someone, In Style was put together for that very purpose,” said Abby Tan, Director, Corporate Affairs, MSD Malaysia.

“MSD has always been an advocator of public health education, working with healthcare professionals and partners with an interest to do the same. Our access to the information and knowledge from research and through our partners in the medical community puts us in a position to spearhead this campaign. Tell Someone, In Style is a supporting arm of the Tell Someone cervical cancer awareness campaign by making use of fashion to reach out to our audiences,” she added.

In addition to the sale of the T-shirts, a VIP auction where six items fitted with Swarovski crystals by the designers was auctioned to the highest bidder. A total of RM29, 500 from the VIP auction was also raised for NCSM.
